Workshop | Engaging Conflict Constructively

In this session, participants will be guided through a new paradigm for conflict as a constructive means for increased understanding of others. Using academic frameworks, story-based examples, and guided personal reflection, participants will understand the types of interpersonal conflict, the causes of conflict, and methods for using conflict as a tool for empathy instead of division. The frameworks used to analyze conflict include the Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Model and the “Conflict Iceberg” model, while the models for responses to conflict include the SAI-IT feedback model and the TAIKE feedback model. Finally, 9 tools for conflict management and resolution will be introduced, with a deep-dive focus on certain tools including building new metaphors, self-regulation and reflection work, and cultural humility, among others. Overall, participants will walk away with a new understanding of the function of conflict and equipped with memorable tools to engage in conflict with empathy.
